Catholic Charities Oregon develops hundreds of affordable housing units
Catholic Charities of Oregon continues to advance new developments and initiatives to meet the goals of the Healthy Housing Initiative. Among these developments are 130 affordable housing units under construction – including 35 Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) units – in Portland at Cathedral Village Apartments and at The Annex, an innovative, privately funded property adjacent to Catholic Charities’ headquarters. Funding is committed for another 180+ units (including 76 PSH units), which are expected to be under construction in the next 12 months.
Two additional developments on local parish campuses encompass 110+ affordable and 50+ PSH units and are currently pending decisions on funding applications submitted in late 2021.
Catholic Charities is exploring additional innovative solutions to Portland’s homelessness crisis, including a new tiny-home village with 20 sleeping pods at The National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother (commonly referred to as The Grotto), mirrored after the highly successful Kenton Women’s Village. In addition, expanded partnerships with Providence Health and Services and the University of Portland are bringing health workshops and wellness checks to Catholic Charities’ existing affordable rental and PSH residents.
