Luz*, 4 years old, was living with her grandmother in El Salvador after her parents abandoned her. Her grandmother did not take good care of her, and she ended up being sexually molested by an older cousin. Her home environment was very unstable, and she was often left alone as a very young child. Her aunt, a U.S. citizen, saw her situation and brought her to the United States. After working with attorneys at Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston, she was able to get Special Immigrant Juvenile status and then a green card. Her aunt has been able to bring her to therapy to deal with her previous trauma and provide her with a stable home environment. She is now 8 years old, and doing very well at school. Her aunt is extremely proud of her. [*Name changed to protect privacy.]
