CCUSA shares story of refugee newcomer to the U.S.

September 28, 2017

Pope Francis launched the Share the Journey campaign from St. Peter’s Square on September 27, 2017. The campaign, which encourages everyone to welcome with open arms those people who have been displaced from their homelands and to listen to their stories, will run through September 2019.

Catholic Charities USA, along with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Relief Services, is participating in Share the Journey, which is being led by Caritas Internationalis.

At this time when the plight of migrants and refugees is met with indifference and even hostility on the part of some, each of us can make a difference by listening first and then walking with these people who are truly our brothers and sisters.

In addition to spreading the word about Share the Journey, CCUSA continues to support newcomers to the U.S. through advocacy, social media, education and outreach. Also, in answering the pope’s call to listen to the stories of migrants and refugees, CCUSA produced and released a video that relates the experience of one refugee who came to the U.S. seeking refuge: Watch Walaa Ali’s story.
