After Living Under the Shadow of Domestic Violence, She Got a New Start and a New Home
Catholic Charities helped Chandra find a new apartment for her and her six children. She no longer has to worry about being a victim of domestic violence.
Earlier this year, that wasn’t the case. An abusive relationship was becoming worse, and she knew her family needed to escape the situation.
Catholic Charities stepped in, giving her temporary shelter and providing wrap-around services such as food, clothing, and financial counseling. Chandra is participating in an initiative that will restore her credit and is enrolled in a program aimed at displaced homemakers that help them develop new skills and empower them to secure a full-time job.
The Homeless to Home program set them up in their new apartment, with their family kept together and the necessarily stability to transform a life lived in fear into one based in independence and purpose.
