Alexandria, Virginia (October 5, 2014) – In thanksgiving for over two decades of helping shape and train the next generation of Catholic Charities leaders, Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), one of the nation’s largest networks of faith-based social service providers, will honor Dr. John Yankey and Dr. Zoe Breen Wood with a Centennial Medal.

Drs. Yankey and Breen Wood are long-time faculty at CCUSA’s annual Leadership Institute, an intensive week-long seminar that offers Catholic Charities staff and leaders opportunities to learn about their personality, leadership, and negotiating styles, while exploring questions related to mission, ethics, and Catholic identity.

The two professors will receive a Centennial medal, an award established by CCUSA to recognize individuals who have indelibly impacted its network of service providers in its more than 100 years of serving those in need.

“The Leadership Institute has proven to be one of the most effective methods of building leadership capacity among our agencies and executive leadership,” said Fr. Larry Snyder, president of CCUSA. “It is my great pleasure to recognize John and Zoe for their commitment to our mission and their two decades of work with our network.”

Dr. Yankey, professor emeritus at Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, has shared his expertise on management styles and techniques, negotiation styles and techniques, and non-profit management with every Leadership Institute class since the late 1980s. Dr. Breen Wood is an assistant professor and director of educational outcomes assessment at Case Western’s Mandel School of Applied Sciences and is an expert on personality styles, including Myers-Briggs type indicator, and learning styles.

The Centennial Medal award will be presented tonight at the CCUSA’s award dinner during its 2014 Annual Gathering, currently taking place in Charlotte, N.C.
