Catholic Charities USA Applauds the Unanimous Decision by the 9th Circuit Court Overturning Administration’s Travel Ban that Suspended Refugee Resettlement Program
Alexandria, Va. – Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) applauds the decision by the 9th Circuit Court that lets stand the temporary block on the Administration’s travel ban directed at citizens from predominantly Muslim countries. An appeal by the Trump Administration to the Supreme Court is likely.
Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, president and CEO of CCUSA said, “While this ruling marks a significant victory for the millions of families attempting to flee conflict or who have been separated by the travel ban, it is only a provisional one. We trust that ongoing efforts to welcome people escaping persecution and violence will continue even in the midst of the uncertainty surrounding the program. Catholic Charities is committed to supporting vulnerable people coming here in search of a safe life.”
As it has for more than 100 years, Catholic Charities assists refugees and migrants who have come to our country, regardless of their creed or country of origin. Our agencies continue to provide individuals and families who come to their doors with the dignity every human being deserves.
CCUSA has launched an ambitious fundraising campaign to fill the gap that is created by the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. refugee resettlement program. By giving to Catholic Charities, donors will help to meet the needs of this vulnerable population and contribute directly to their ability to receive the programs and services they need to become active contributors to American society.
