Alexandria, Va. – Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) President and CEO Sister Donna Markham OP, PhD expressed her deep disappointment over today’s failure by the U.S. Senate to pass a bill to provide protections for DACA recipients:

“It is deeply heartbreaking that the Senate was unable to pass a bill today to provide protections for DACA recipients ahead of the March 5th deadline. While thankful for the bipartisan majority support for protecting DACA youth, it is unconscionable that nearly 800,000 will continue to live in fear and uncertainty.

“As it has for more than 100 years, Catholic Charities will continue to stand with and advocate on behalf of migrants and others in need. Not because they are migrants but because they are children of God. We pray for DACA families and urge Congress to work together to protect DACA recipients and do everything within their power to protect their rights and that of their families.”
