Foundational Services

"If someone who has worldly means sees a sister or brother in need and refuses them compassion, how can the love of God remain in that person? Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth." 1 John 3:17-18

Our Efforts

For more than 100 years, Catholic Charities has provided services to children, adults, families and communities. These foundational services include adoption, pregnancy services, foster care, education and employment support, senior care, criminal justice ministries and many other essential services that address the unique needs of the communities who are served.

Our Approach

Across the nation, Catholic Charities is committed to alleviating, reducing and preventing poverty. Our mission is clear: We provide service to people in need, advocate for justice in social structures and call the entire Church and other people of good will to do the same. Believing in each person’s potential, Catholic Charities agencies:

  1. Assist birth-parents and adoptive parents through the legal process of adoption.

  2. Provide life-enriching adult education courses including GED completion, English language, computer literacy, parenting, and healthy family relationships.

  3. Offer life skills education to prisoners and returning citizens in order to decrease recidivism and to support their transition into life outside prison.

  4. Provide transportation and caregiver support for senior citizens to increase their quality of life.

Approach to Advocacy

Catholic Charities USA advocates to ensure high-quality, affordable education and workforce training opportunities are available to all, especially low-income families. Accordingly, we urge lawmakers to support policies and strengthen programs that improve access to high-quality early childhood education, increase high-school graduation rates--particularly for at-risk youth--and support completion of post-secondary degrees or other professional training programs.

The Impact

Because of the foundational services offered by Catholic Charities agencies, children excel in school, adults learn vital skills to secure good jobs, and all clients receive support to lead dignified lives.
