CCUSA responds to Trump v. International Refugee Assistance Project
Sister Donna Markham OP, PhD, president and CEO of Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) made the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the travel ban: “We are deeply saddened by the potential consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision on the millions of refugees who have been temporarily banned from migrating to this country and rebuilding their lives, most especially, the Syrian refugees. Across the world more than 60 million refugees — fathers, sons, mothers and daughters – are forced to live in wretched conditions, unable to return to a place they called home.
“While we are still reviewing the implications of this decision, CCUSA will continue to work with our member agencies across the country to ensure they are able to continue to serve their current refugee clients who depend on them for assistance.”
For more than 100 years the Catholic Charities ministry has been welcoming migrants and refugees fleeing conflict, poverty and insecurity. Last year the Catholic Charities supported the resettlement efforts of more than 63,000 refugees in this country.
