CCUSA applauds decision overturning suspension of refugee resettlement program

Alexandria, Va. – Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) applauds the decision by the 9th Circuit Court that lets stand the temporary block on the Administration’s travel ban directed at citizens from predominantly Muslim countries. An appeal by the Trump Administration to the Supreme Court is likely.

Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, president and CEO of CCUSA said, “While this ruling marks a significant victory for the millions of families attempting to flee conflict or who have been separated by the travel ban, it is only a provisional one. We trust that ongoing efforts to welcome people escaping persecution and violence will continue even in the midst of the uncertainty surrounding the program. Catholic Charities is committed to supporting vulnerable people coming here in search of a safe life.”
