Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) submitted testimony before the House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means for its hearing entitled “Moving America’s Families Forward: Setting Priorities for Reducing Poverty and Expanding Opportunity.”
In its testimony, CCUSA outlines the efforts being undertaken by Catholic Charities agencies across the country to alleviate poverty in the United States and offers insights gained from that experience which can help legislators craft policies responsive to local conditions and practice. CCUSA urges policy makers to move beyond solutions which focus merely on cutting funds and programs, or defending the status quo, and rather to prioritize a human-centered approach to alleviating poverty.
