Last week, Catholic Charities USA presented Social Innovation Awards to two Arizona state local member agencies during their latest Partners in Excellence Regional Gathering event. Held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the event highlighted two innovative groups in the area: the DIGNITY program, helping human trafficking victims in Phoenix; as well as the Pio Decimo Center, offering micro loans to those in need in the Tucson area.
Catholic Charities Community Services- Arizona was recognized for their DIGNITY Programs. Founded more than ten years ago by a former victim of human trafficking, DIGNITY aids more than 2,000 women a year who have been victims of sex trafficking by providing training, therapy and housing.
Catholic Community Services of Southern Arizona’s Pio Decimo Center also received recognition for their micro-loan fund. The only Spanish-speaking business councilors in the area, they provide motivated individuals with small-business education and micro loans of up to $10,000 to improve their financial stability while they provide for themselves.
We continue to thank our local member agencies for their dedication to improving the lives of those in poverty across our nation, and we look forward to the next round of Social Innovation Awards to be announced next year.
