Catholic Charities USA President, Rev. Larry Snyder, issued the following statement in response to the proposed principles released by House Republicans to address immigration reform.
“Catholic Charities USA is encouraged by the House leadership’s willingness to continue to take a step to address the plight of immigrants. While the principles do not include a path to citizenship, we believe that this is a step towards enacting just and fair immigration policy.
“Catholic Charities USA has provided services to immigrants for over 100 years. Through our work with this vulnerable population, we are familiar with the economic and political forces that cause people to seek a better life in the United States. In 2014, I look forward to continuing to work with members of Congress, regardless of political affiliation, to improve upon these principles and enact legislation that allows families to remain intact, provides a path forward to lawful permanent residence and citizenship for undocumented workers and their families, and promotes the security of our nation.”
