Alliance with University of Notre Dame

Alliance with the University of Notre Dame

More than 46 million live below the poverty line in America. This unacceptable reality has inspired two preeminent Catholic institutions, Catholic Charities USA and the University of Notre Dame, to establish a bold alliance to bring systemic change to the way we approach poverty in the United States.

Inspired by a shared moral purpose, the two institutions will focus on driving impactful academic research and cutting-edge social innovation to create scalable solutions, affording those in poverty the opportunity to achieve a better life and giving policymakers the tools to transform the outdated and fraying social safety net.

The alliance has three core project areas with an overarching goal of informing the development of public policy that will systematically reform our nation's crumbling social safety net.

Overarching Goal: Impacting Policy

Ultimately, by identifying successful approaches to poverty reduction, this alliance hopes to be a voice for the development of sound public policy, grounded in real-world results, that creates opportunities for the millions of Americans living in poverty to achieve self-sufficiency.

Through advocacy and educational outreach, Catholic Charities USA and the University of Notre Dame will bring a powerful voice to the national conversation around reform of the social safety net and building a truly national movement to create a brighter future for those in need.
